Game crashes/freezes/slow (Android)

We understand how frustrating it can be when the game crashes or freezes, and we are here to help! If you’re experiencing issues with the game on your Android device, please follow the steps below to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

1. Check Your Internet Connection

Ensure your device is connected to a stable internet connection. An unstable or slow connection can cause the game to freeze or crash.

  • If you’re using Wi-Fi, try restarting your router.
  • If you’re using mobile data, ensure you have a strong signal.

2. Close Unnecessary Apps Running in the Background

Running too many apps at the same time can use up system resources, which may affect the game’s performance.

  • Open the Recent Apps screen (usually by swiping up from the bottom or pressing the Recent Apps button on your device).
  • Swipe away all the apps that are running in the background.

3. Restart Your Device

Rebooting your device can help resolve many issues by clearing temporary files and refreshing system resources.

  • Press and hold the Power button on your device until the restart option appears.
  • Tap Restart (or Reboot, depending on your device).

4. Ensure You Have Enough Free Storage Space

If your device is running low on storage, it can cause performance issues, including crashes.

  • Go to Settings > Storage to check how much space is available on your device.
  • If you have less than 2GB of free space, try deleting unnecessary files or apps to free up some space.

5. Clear the Game’s Cache

Clearing the cache can help fix issues caused by corrupted data.

  • Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Cradle of Empires.
  • Tap Storage & Cache.
  • Tap Clear Cache (do not tap Clear Data, as it may delete your game progress).

6. Check for Game Updates

Make sure you’re using the latest version of the game. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.

  • Open the Google Play Store.
  • Tap the Profile icon at the top right and select Manage apps & device.
  • Tap Updates available, find Cradle of Empires, and tap Update if available.

7. Update Your Device’s Operating System

Sometimes, game crashes are caused by outdated software on your device.

  • Go to Settings > Software Update.
  • If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

8. Reinstall the Game (Last Resort)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, reinstalling the game may help. Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Cradle of Empires.

  • Tap Uninstall and confirm.
  • Reinstall the game from the Google Play Store.

Important: After reinstalling the game, do not log into Facebook immediately. If you do, the automatic progress recovery system will not work. Instead, open the game, and when the game prompts you to restore your progress, agree to the recovery.

Note: The above steps in settings may vary by device. For more info, you may need to contact your device manufacturer: https://support.google.com/android/answer/3094742
